Blocked Kitchen Sink in Manly Vale: Slow Drain to Full Blockage, Cleared Fast
A kitchen sink that takes longer and longer to drain is rarely a one-off. It's usually a pipe narrowing from the inside, heading toward exactly this: a full stop.
- Weeks
- The drain got gradually slower before it stopped
- Full stoppage
- The sink eventually stopped draining altogether
- Pipe cleared
- Blockage cleared from the pipe directly below the sink
The situation
A customer in Manly Vale called us about their kitchen sink. It hadn’t blocked overnight, it had been getting slower and slower over several weeks, the kind of thing that’s easy to put up with until suddenly you can’t. By the time we were called, the sink had stopped draining completely and water was sitting in the bowl.
What we found
That gradual-then-sudden pattern is a strong clue on its own. A kitchen sink that blocks instantly, with no warning, usually means something’s dropped straight down the drain and lodged there. A sink that slows down over weeks is different: it means the pipe has been narrowing from the inside the whole time, until there was barely any gap left for water to get through at all. Once that gap closes completely, the sink looks like it blocked “suddenly,” but the real blockage had been building for a while.
The fix
We cleared the blockage from the pipe directly beneath the sink, restoring normal drainage and flow.

The outcome
Water was draining away normally again by the time we left. For a kitchen sink specifically, this gradual-slowdown pattern is almost always a buildup issue inside the pipe rather than a single blockage event, so the best way to stop it coming back is dealing with it early, as soon as the sink starts taking longer to drain, rather than waiting for it to stop altogether.
